Real-time PCR

Introduction

All living things including animals, plants, bacteria, and viruses have genes (DNA or RNA) and DNA has a ladder-like, double helix structure with two chains of strands.Living things have their own specific genetic sequences, so detecting the sequence can identify the type of living organism.The high-sensitivity measurement of genes enables the identification of living things using a small piece of genetic material. PCR method is a technique of amplifying genes that makes possible to detect genes at a high sensitivity.

Principle of real-time PCR

The PCR method enables real-time measurement of the amplification of target DNA. From the measurement result, you can check the presence of the target DNA and perform quantitative determination for it.More specifically, as a sample is moved between high and low temperature ranges, a specific part of DNA amplifies, by x2, x4, and so on, exponentially (theoretically, it amplifies to approximately a trillion in 40 cycles).Because of this, DNA that is present only in a small amount at the beginning can be eventually measured.
